Before you apply, confirm who pays for the stay, what the report requires, and whether the provider can be identified independently.
Hotel review applications are where disappointment often starts: people apply to a glamorous advert, then discover they must finance the trip, write a long report, and wait for approval. A short checklist prevents that surprise.
Pre-application checklist
- Official company website and a physical or registered identity you can research.
- Whether you book and pay, then wait for reimbursement.
- Whether compensation is monetary, partial, or non-monetary.
- Report length, photos, receipts, and deadline.
- Geographic eligibility.
- Any joining fee — research this independently if it exists.
- What happens if the assignment is cancelled.
Red flags in hotel-review offers
Be cautious of guaranteed five-star weekends, pressure to recruit friends, requests to pay in gift cards, or instructions to post five-star public reviews regardless of the stay. Assigned mystery work is usually confidential and specific, not a pyramid of sign-ups.
After you apply
Keep copies of terms. Do not share bank passwords. If onboarding is only via an anonymous chat account, pause. Legitimate coordinators can still use email, but the company behind the email should still be identifiable.
